Jim Florentine knows who he’ll be rooting for in Super Bowl 50, but in the end, he thinks he’s going to be disappointed.
“I’m not a Peyton Manning fan at all,” the comedian and VH1 television personality said on CBS Sports Radio’s Ferrall on the Bench. “I want Carolina to win badly, but I just have this feeling that Carolina’s just going to be happy to be there and Denver is just going to shock them. They’re not going to know what to do. They’ve been blowing teams out left and right. If they get a little adversity, I think they’re going to choke on the big stage. Denver’s been there before, and they got a bad taste in their mouth from a couple years ago.”
Indeed, the Broncos allowed a safety on the first play of Super Bowl XLVIII and lost to the Seattle Seahawks, 43-8. Denver, however, is a 5.5-point underdog in Super Bowl 50.
Florentine doesn’t care.
“You can’t count Peyton Manning out,” he said. “I counted him out like Week 8. I’m like, ‘His career’s over. I’m happy. This is beautiful. I don’t have to see him anymore except for his dumb commercials.’ But then the guy comes back and I’m telling you, this is like a storybook ending for him. He’s not going out like that. He’s still Peyton Manning. He’s going to pull through somehow. Cam Newton, who knows? He’ll throw a couple of interceptions and it’s going to be over. I want Carolina (to win) so bad, but I see Denver pulling an upset.”
Kickoff on Sunday is at 6:30 p.m. ET.
