The Patriots dominated a game they weren’t supposed to win, blanking the Texans 27-0 on Thursday Night Football in Foxborough.

“It’s just a total team effort,” Patriots cornerback Logan Ryan said on CBS Sports Radio’s Ferrall on the Bench. “We always want to defend our home turf. Everybody was on their game. Everyone executed. The front seven executed great. The safeties did a lot. Corner group, we stepped it up this week, so it’s just a total team effort. That’s what happens when everybody’s on the same heartbeat and everyone’s doing their job.”

Jacoby Brissett, who was making his first career start, was an efficient 11-of-19 for 103 yards. He also ran eight times for 48 yards and a touchdown, while LeGarrette Blount carried 24 times for 105 yards and two touchdowns.

“For all the people saying we can’t win with a third-sting quarterback and the injuries on offense, I think McDaniels and those guys are proving a lot of people wrong with how great the coaching is over there, how well the quarterback, Jacoby Brissett, is learning, how fast he is, how confident he is,” Ryan said. “And really, it’s the confidence in each other. I don’t think anyone blinked an eye when we figured out Jacoby was starting. We knew that he’d be able to get the job done. (We) do it different ways every week, but we’re able to do it. I just think that’s a credit to the coaching and the players wanting to be coaches.

The Texans struggled to run the ball and had awful field position throughout. In fact, they didn’t run a play in New England territory until the end of the third quarter.

“When you’re a tough football team, you cover kicks well and you stop the run,” Ryan said. “Our front seven was able to stop the run and we were able to cover kicks well, which makes my job easier.”

The Patriots (3-0) host Buffalo (0-2) on Sunday, Oct. 2, at 1 p.m. They are one win away from going 4-0 without Tom Brady.

“It feels great,” Ryan said. “We went out there and we did what we were supposed to do on a short week and now we get to enjoy these extra days off and get ready for a Buffalo team who always plays us tough and got some great players also. It’s fun. It’s fun to watch some games this weekend, relax with the family and get ready to rep it up again.”
