Sometimes, it’s not always what you say that counts; it’s when you say it.

For Odell Beckham Jr., it’s both.

“Obviously when he spoke after the game on Monday night and he said those things, I didn’t think they necessarily came off very well, but he could say, ‘Well, I was emotional after the (game),’” NJ Advanced Media writer James Kratch said on CBS Sports Radio’s Ferrall on the Bench. “But today, the comments about how he’s not having fun, I didn’t really see how that’s going to help his cause. I don’t think there’s anybody who’s going to hear those comments and think that’s a good (thing). I really don’t see what he thought he was going to achieve by saying that today.”

Indeed, Beckham, who had yet another outburst this past weekend, vented to reporters after the game. Then he doubled down on this remarks Tuesday, saying he’s not having fun anymore.

Has Beckham officially become a distraction?

“I just think that anything that happens with Odell is becoming a distraction,” Kratch said. “It may not be a distraction during the game, but it’s definitely a distraction now, especially with what he said after the game and what he said today. He’s going to have to discuss his comments later in the week, so it’s just going to keep going and going. So in that sense, I definitely think it’s a distraction. I think he’s had five issues in the last eight games and he was suspended for a game in there, too. It’s definitely a problem for the Giants. I don’t think the Giants can necessarily say, ‘Well, we’re just working through it. It’s going to get (better).’ They have to do something.”

It seems that general manager Jerry Reese tried to do something Monday night, but it might not have worked.

“Jerry Reese sat with him at his locker for 10 to 15 minutes after the game on Monday night,” Kratch said. “Jerry did it in plain view of every reporter who was in the locker room talking to players. I think Jerry is a guy who’s usually in the locker room after games, but he’s not usually out in the open like that. So he clearly thought there was a major issue that he had to address right then and there. It couldn’t wait until the bus back to the airport. It couldn’t wait for the flight home. I think the Giants know they have to (do something), but people are going to be skeptical. Last year, they really did nothing in that Carolina game. I think it’s one of the reasons Tom Coughlin is not the head coach. And now it seems like they’re trying to do something, but it doesn’t seem like it’s working so far.”
